Space Dolphin are proud to present to you À La Roi, the first single from their debut LP More Than Soul, to be released on the 26th March 2021.

A play on words (roi meaning king in French), À La Roi is a sonic tribute to Roy Ayers, the king of vibraphone himself. Having supported Roy Ayers in 2019, Space Dolphin wanted to re-capture the energy and feel of that show, and fuse the nostalgic and jazzy sounds of 60’s Virgo Vibes with classic, choppy MPC drum breaks. This track marks a 10 year friendship between MotorMouf and Space Dolphin producer Jake Mehew. Having both cut their teeth in the Nottingham music scene, Space Dolphin have broken out into the north of England and brought with them the best rappers, wordsmiths and musical mavericks Notts has to offer.

Expect lots of beatboxing, clever use of rhythm and flow from Motormouf, and floating vibraphone licks that are synonymous with that old school hip hop sound. The beat itself is a bouncy, 90bpm shuffle, with slick piano hooks, thick and busy bass, dubby turntablism and 70’s disco toms, all sat on a bed of airy mellotron strings. MotorMouf’s lyrics and flow are cool, calm and collected.

More Than Soul is a 33 minute whistle-stop tour through the different flavours of hip hop that Space Dolphin love, with guest features on each track to really bring this record to life. More Than Soul is a celebration of the unifying spirit of music, during a poignant moment in history where social distancing has divided and separated us from who and what we love. The album is scheduled for release on the 25th June 2021.
