Space Dolphin are back again to bring you another single from their debut LP More Than Soul. Space Dolphin’s Energy is graced by the vocal presence of Nottingham royalty - the queen of soul herself, Harleighblu. The official release date for Energy (Feat. Harleighblu) is the 14th May, 2021. Having performed within the same circles for many years, Space Dolphin and Harleighblu finally established a friendship at the regionals for We Out Here festival in 2019, This track came about from an open-cypher during their Nottingham single launch of 2020’s releases Smoking Kills and Wet Paint. Space Dolphin regularly invite rappers and singers within the audience to cypher on top of their beats; it just so happened that Harleighblu graced us with her presence that night. After Harleighblu shredded some Erykah Badu over the beat we’ve come to recognise as Energy, we knew we had to collaborate more professionally.

You can expect a powerful and passionate vocal performance from Harleighblu, who sings of the powerful energy of love. The wall of harmony and intricate melody from Harleighblu serve only to heighten the lyrics. The beat itself is a nod to all things boombap - a straight ahead 90bpm breakbeat/MPC flex, with fat and intricate synth bass, acoustic piano runs and chops, phased Rhodes, and arrangements of saxophone, flute and vibraphones that bring a dusty jazz flavour to the record. More Than Soul is a 33 minute whistle-stop tour through the different flavours of hip hop that Space Dolphin love, with guest features on each track to really bring this record to life. More Than Soul is a celebration of the unifying spirit of music, during a poignant moment in history where social distancing has divided and separated us from who and what we love. The album is scheduled for release on the 25th June 2021.
